How should Christians treat transgender people?

The direct answer

With the same human dignity, honesty, and protection owed to every person. I believe the body and the male-female language of creation matter theologically. I also recognize that gender dysphoria and a person's lived experience cannot be answered responsibly through ridicule, public humiliation, or a slogan.

Fuller explanation

Christians disagree about social transition, medical intervention, language, and how biblical texts apply. Those are substantive questions. They should be discussed without pretending that cruelty becomes courage when it uses religious vocabulary.

I will state my convictions about creation and embodiment, listen to what a person is actually describing, and avoid claiming knowledge I do not possess about their motives or medical needs. Specific clinical decisions belong with the person, appropriate guardians where relevant, and qualified professionals, not with a generalized website answer.

A church should explain its practices clearly. It should also protect transgender people from harassment and refuse to make public debate the price of receiving ordinary care.

The objection we still need to face

Does dignity require affirming every claim someone makes about identity?

No. Respect and agreement are not identical. But disagreement does not justify contempt, deliberate humiliation, or reducing a whole person to one disputed question. Christians should be able to state a conviction without making cruelty part of the doctrine.

Scripture and its use

Genesis 1:26–28; Psalm 139:13–18; Matthew 7:12; Mark 10:13–16; Galatians 3:26–29

Sexual orientation and gender identity are distinct. Being transgender is not itself a psychiatric diagnosis, and not every transgender person experiences gender dysphoria. This answer does not assess an individual or recommend treatment.
