For much of my life, I thought a message was something you discovered, developed, and delivered. I was looking for the right idea, the right assignment, or the right platform. Over time, I began to see that the more important work was happening beneath all of that. God was not only giving me things to say. He was confronting the distance between what I said and the way I lived.
Becoming the Message
How God Uses Brokenness, Failure, and Grace to Shape the Life We Were Meant to Live
Becoming the Message is Will Bourne’s memoir of formation through ambition, military service, marriage, fatherhood, divorce, single parenting, leadership, rebuilding, family crisis, spiritual questioning, and grace.

I would say this: Your life does not need to become impressive to become meaningful, but it does need to keep becoming honest. Honesty opens the door to grace, responsibility, repair, wiser boundaries, accountable leadership, and a faith that does not depend upon pretending. It allows us to acknowledge both the good we hoped to do and the impact we failed to see.

Becoming the Message is Will Bourne’s memoir of formation through ambition, military service, marriage, fatherhood, divorce, single parenting, leadership, rebuilding, family crisis, spiritual questioning, and grace. Refusing easy formulas, Bourne examines how belief becomes visible in relationships, responsibility, repentance, and the use of power. The result is an honest account of an unfinished life and a central conviction: the message we carry becomes credible through the people we are still becoming.
