I wrote it because that language often arrives with two competing histories. For some Christians, it names the center of their hope. For many other people, it carries memories of arrogance, colonization, forced conversion, fear-based preaching, or exclusion. I did not want to defend the harm or solve the tension by changing Jesus into someone the Gospels do not present.
